Conservative-controlled Amber Valley Borough Council announced a zero increase in Council Tax for 2013/14, the fourth year in a row. This being achieved with a budget 2.5% less than for the current year to 31 March 2013.
Councillor Stuart Bradford, Leader of the Council, said: “We have made provisions to freeze Council Tax again this year to avoid putting household budgets under any more pressure. As Conservatives, we are proud of our financial achievements in these difficult times, whilst still providing first class services. Despite having to make savings of £1.8M we have provided a balanced budget, as well as putting money back into our Reserves. The benefit for the residents of Amber Valley of having both a Conservative Borough and County Council means the taxpayer is £200 a year better off for a Band D property.”
Labour members did not support saving the taxpayer £200 a year. Quite the contrary, Labour-controlled parish and town councils significantly increased their precept charges to its local residents, one by 88%.
